The woe and horror of the event is steamrolled by a surplus of special and digitized effects.. Ships, planes and water combust and collide in Pearl Harbor, but nothing else does in one of the wimpiest wartime romances ever filmed.. "The Water Diviner" just wants to tell an old-fashioned war story, but it might have picked the wrong war.. Even slightly self-censored, its images of broken cities and the walking wounded is a strong restating of the film's message: There is no such thing as a "good"...
